Background
The prestigious Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Cambridge was established in 2022 as a collaboration between the University and the Mastercard Foundation. Over 500 Scholars from the African continent will be enrolled in the program between 2023 and 2030 to undertake a wide range of Master’s courses.
Ultimately, the mission of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars program at the University of Cambridge is to contribute to the development of a transformative network of young people, critical to driving sustainable change.

Eligibility
- Must be citizens of an African country.
- Must be resident in an African country, unless they can show temporary absence for study or work, except they are displaced or have refugee status.
- Must be applying for a master’s course of up to one year in length, at the University of Cambridge. The only exceptions are Master of Accountancy (MACC), Business Administration (MBA), Master of Corporate Law (MCL), and Master of Finance (MFIN).
- Must meet the academic requirements of the course for which they are applying.
How to Apply for The Mastercard Scholarship at The University of Cambridge
Step One
Once you have identified the course you are interested in HERE, you are required to put together the required paperwork and submit your application for admission and funding (Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Program and other funding if applicable) via the University’s Graduate Application Portal.
Step Two
As part of the application process in the University’s graduate application portal, students are asked to select funding bodies they are interested in applying to. A range of options are presented to the applicant. Once you select the Mastercard Foundation Scholars programme, you will be required to submit a mandatory personal statement.
