Background

The IPCC Scholarship Programme provides scholarships for PhD students from developing countries for research that advances the understanding of the scientific basis of risks of climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation.

Eligibility Requirements for The 2025 IPCC Scholarship Award

  • Applicants must be PhD students with at least one year of enrollment or be engaged in postdoctoral research.
  • Candidates should be citizens of a developing nation, with preference given to those from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), especially if they are studying outside their home country.
  • Scholarships offer up to 15,000 Euros annually, for a maximum of two years, within the 2025-2027 period.
  • Research proposals related to climate change are encouraged.
  • Research proposals on related topics like living soils, biodiversity, regenerative viticulture, agroforestry, water management, Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS), and the terrestrial carbon cycle are also welcome.

Application Documents required for The 2025 IPCC Scholarship Award

  • A completed application form.
  • Copies of national identification and passport.
  • A research proposal, with a length of 5 to 15 pages maximum.
  • A preliminary budget for the research.
  • Proof of having completed at least one year of PhD studies or evidence of starting postdoctoral research.
  • A letter of recommendation from the host institution.
  • A letter of support from an IPCC Focal Point, an IPCC Observer Organization, or an IPCC Bureau Member.
