Makerere University announces the opening of applications for the second cohort of undergraduate scholarships offered through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program for students enrolling at the university’s main campus in the 2025/2026 academic year.

Background

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University aims to deepen inclusive University education and empower 1,000 young people from Africa to make meaningful contributions to national and regional development.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program will support talented young men and women from Sub-Saharan Africa who are facing economic barriers in pursuing university education.

Eligibility Requirements for The Mastercard Undergraduate Scholarships at Makerere University

  • To be eligible, you must have applied for admission to Makerere University’s main campus under the private sponsorship scheme for the 2025/2026 academic year.
  • This scholarship is intended for individuals experiencing financial hardship.
  • You should not be the recipient of any other scholarship, including the Government of Uganda Scholarship.
  • Individuals who have already completed an undergraduate degree program are not eligible.
  • Successful candidates will have demonstrated potential for leadership and/or involvement in community service.
  • You must be 28 years old or younger at the time of the application deadline.
  • Refugee applicants and persons with disabilities should be 32 years old or younger at the time of the application deadline.
